Honey bees and honey are mentioned 52 times in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, demonstrating just how important they were to the people of those times. Israel itself was famously known as "The Land of Milk and Honey," described throughout the Bible as an abundant land of overflowing resources. Among the most famous of the verses mentioning honey are three from King Solomon, known for his considerable wisdom, wealth, power, and abundance of wives. Solomon, son of David, is credited in the Hebrew Bible with building the First Temple in Jerusalem and in the Muslim faith, he is considered a major prophet. According to the Bible, the sins of King Solomon eventually resulted in the division of his kingdom into the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah.
